There could well be…… the concept of the afterlife is to do with the idea that the mind continues after the body has gone.
In ancient egypt the afterlife was a very important concept. THey belived that when the body died, parts of its soul known as ka (body double) and the ba (personality) would go to the Kingdom of the Dead. Statues were placed in the tombs to serve as substitutes for the deceased.
Egyptians also believed that being mummified was the only way to have an afterlife. Only if the corpse had been properly embalmed could the dead live again. Due to the dangers the afterlife posed, the Book of the Dead was placed in the tomb with the body as well as food, jewelry, and ‘curses’.
Another interesting outlook was that of the parapsychologist Duncan MacDougall who sought to measure the weight lost by a human when the soul “departed the body” upon death, MacDougall weighed dying patients in an attempt to prove that the soul was material, tangible and thus measurable. These experiments are widely considered to have had little if any scientific merit, and although MacDougall’s results varied considerably from “21 grams”, for some people this figure has become synonymous with the measure of a soul’s mass. There was even a movie made about it ’21 grams’ starring Sean Penn and Niamoi Watts.

thers a whole load of other explainations for an afterlife within different religions from catholisicsm to buddism I could be here all day so hopefully those brief exerpts give you a little insight 🙂

I believe that my memory will live on with other people, but I’m not so certain about life after death I’m afraid.

I don’t believe in an afterlife as there is no solid evidence for such a thing. It is a great idea though and would love to find out that when I pass away my loved ones are waiting for me. But I personally can’t believe in it without proof.
