I never really realised I wanted to be a scientist I continued to do the things I enjoyed, so I guess it just kind of happened.

Probably at A level.. I took Biol and Chem at A level as I thought they were interesting and logical subjects (liked things like English etc, but found them a bit wishy-washy, no solid facts to build on). Form there, I decided that I loved Biology and wanted to continue to study it, even though at that point I had no idea about the career available to a Biologist. I’m glad I did it though as at uni we covered lots of different subjects and started to find out about biology careers such as being a researcher. There are so many fields to choose from and there are loads of jobs available.

It was aged 12 while watching a programme called Sabrina the teenage whitch and they had those test tubes that overflowed with steam which i really wanted to be able to do in the lab-im a nerd I know! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=136090112956761378#

Why I knew I wanted to get into my area was because a couple of years ago i worked in a clinic with morbidly obese people, helping them loose weight through psychological intervention, counselling, diet and exercise. Before I left one of my clients(who had been massively successful at weight loss during the programme) came up to me and said that i had given her back her life. That is what inspired me to stay within obesity research if i only have the opportunity to help one more person like that in my career then it will be worth it!
