I’m afraid not. I find that the evidence against a ‘divine creator’ to be overwhelming. I think there is however some truth in the holy texts; I believe there was a man named Jesus Christ who died on a cross, but I interpret the meanings of the texts in a different way – perhaps rather than “water into wine”, this man found a way to purify undrinkable river water and the sweetness of the purified water was compared to drinking wine. I like to think of Christ as a scientist/engineer whose practices were not well understood, hence the reason they were interpreted as miracles. Don’t forget also that the stories were not written down for many many years, so were probably passed on from generation to generation through stories and, like ‘Chinese Whispers’ – some detail may well have been lost in the mists of time.

As a scientist I try not to simply believe in something. I seek out proof of something before I take it as fact. As we do not understand the extremes of our Universe there may be some God there. I do not believe in any theology (religion) but am open to the idea that a God might exist. An all powerful overseeing force does not sound like the craziest idea when you begin to understand the bizarre extremes of our Universe. Although I feel that theology is a catch all for our current lack of understanding.

I don’t believe in God. That is because I can’t find the proof that God exists and as a scientist I require proof before I can belive in something. However, I think that the religous texts, Bible, Koran etc can be extremely important moral guides when interpreted correctly, whatever you believe in. They all teach us to be the best we can be.
